We would like to invite you to extraordinary lectures prepared by Fr Dr Cyprian Moryc, Custos of the Sanctuary and Guardian of the Monastery of the Bernardine Fathers in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, and Fr Efrem Obruśnik.

This is a unique opportunity to discover the heritage of this place on the UNESCO trail. 🏰✨

📌 Lecture topics:

1️⃣ Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels – general characteristics of the foundation.

2️⃣ Why architecture, art and harmony of the landscape? Via Pulchritudinis of St. Bonaventure.

3️⃣ Baroque theatrum sacrum. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska against the background of important Bernardine sanctuaries and solemn religious

Moderator

✅o. Dr Cyprian Moryc, OFM, custodian of the sanctuary and guardian of the monastery, studied at the Art History Institute of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) in 2002, graduating with a master’s degree in art history. In 2007, he obtained his doctoral degree in art history on the basis of his defended dissertation: “Theatrum sacrum in the interiors of Bernardine churches as an expression of the Sarmatian religiosity of the Polish Bernardines”, written under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jerzy Lileyka. From October 2008 to 2019, he worked at the Institute of Cultural Studies at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin and, at the same time, ran the St. Luke’s art studio at the Bernardine monastery in Lublin. From 2019 to 2022, he was a spiritual father at the Higher Seminary of the Bernardine Fathers in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. At the local sanctuary he runs the Sacred Art Studio of Sts Bernardine and Nicholas. He performs the function of Provincial Conservator of Monuments. At the last Provincial Chapter he was re-elected Provincial Definitor.

✅o. Dr Efrem Obruśnik, OFM – is a research worker and lecturer at the Higher Theological Seminary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. He studied theology and history of art at the Catholic University of Lublin, where he obtained his doctoral degree in 1988. He lectured at the Higher School of Pedagogy in Rzeszów and the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Krakow, he was the provincial conservator of monuments, and until 2023 he held the post of director of the Museum of the Province of Bernardine Fathers in Leżajsk. He is engaged in scientific research, journalistic and cultural work. He specialises in the field of Christian iconography and studies the cultural heritage of the Bernardine monastic community. He is the author of many scientific dissertations, articles and lectures devoted to the history of the Church, history of art and museology.
